Argonauts in Ljubljana - theatrical spectacle

This theatrical spectacle dramatises the exploits of Jason and the Argonauts, who, according to one of the versions of the famous ancient legend of the Golden Fleece, sailed along the Ljubljanica river and stopped at the site of the present Ljubljana after having fled from Colchis and sailed their ship Argo across the Black Sea and up the Danube and Sava rivers.

Legend has it that at the site of the present Ljubljana, Jason, aided by the Argonauts, killed the marsh monster which provides the mythological basis for the Dragon of Ljubljana, the symbol used on the city's coat of arms.

Parts of the show, conceived in collaboration with historians and other experts, are performed on a replica Argo ship on the Ljubljanica river. The cast includes a number of renowned Slovenian theatre and film actors.
