The musical Grease, which tells an attractive teenage story and features brilliant dance acts and a string of music hits such as Summer Nights, Beauty School Dropout, We Go Together and Greased Lightnin', first saw the light of day as an amateur production staged in Chicago in 1971.

A year later it won the hearts of audiences on New York's Broadway, where it was performed over 3,300 times by 1980. Its international success came in 1978, when a film version featuring Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta was released.
